01 Jul Hidden Bars NYC–The Exclusive Party Bars

Hidden bars in NYC can be difficult to find when you don’t know where to look. Most NYC secret clubs are hidden behind unmarked doors or hidden underground. Joining a few friends to hang out in one of these exclusive hidden bars will make you feel like you’ve found a hidden treasure.

The speakeasy was the original hidden bar.  The original speakeasy bars were relatively small with little or no entertainment involved. Through gradual growth, the speakeasy became popular  and expanded to many different areas with new additions of entertainment. Today, hidden bars with very little or no outside identification are considered to be quite exclusive.

Plan an exclusive night out with friends to share an insider’s experience in the hidden bars in NYC.

HILO Bar NYCHilo Bar

HILO Bar is a secret hideaway next to its sibling, 675 Bar.  Here you will find handmade stiff drinks and great DJ’s all under an impressive disco ball.  The scene is perfect both for dancing with your party or kicking back on one of the tucked away leather booths.  The spacious interior of this hidden bar provides ample seating.

Snuggly housed below 9th Avenue, HILO is hot and cold all at one time.  Enjoy a cool, refreshing cocktail while dancing up a real sweat in this hidden underground venue.

Apothéke

Apothéke is marked by a chemist sign outside its door. Inspired by the history and rise of the apothecary in Europe as well as the artistic influence of absinthe dens in 19th century Paris, Apothéke is the first of its kind. The entire experience, from wandering down a hidden street to find the entrance, to tasting the first sip of a specialty cocktail made with exotic herbs and fruits – is a privilege.

This hidden bar takes their menu seriously. Mixologists wear white lab coats and will concoct just the right medicine for whatever ails you. The hand-carved back bar is filled with hundreds of antique medicine bottles that were collected from around the world. This is much more than a hidden cocktail bar – this is a hidden cocktail apothecary.

The Back Room

The Back Room is an original speakeasy bar that operated during prohibition.  The original 1920’s speakeasy, known simply as “The Back of Ratner’s,” played host to many theater and movie actors of the “Roaring Twenties,” as well as famous gangsters of the era.

Keep your eyes out for a sign that reads “Lower East Side Toy Company.” Then enter through the gate and go down a flight of steps to get to this Lower East Side speakeasy.

Visit The Back Room and use the same hidden entrance that was used 85 years ago. Enjoy a cocktail from a teacup—the way people used to secretly drink during prohibition! The vintage 1920’s décor, period pieces and secret room behind the bookcase, provide the perfect setting for a date, birthday party, or a casual night with friends.

The Tippler

The Tippler is a hidden bar in the basement level of trendy Chelsea Market. To find The Tippler, look for the large “Open” sign on the south side of the market.  Thursday through Saturday you will encounter a doorman and can expect a line to get in.  This secret watering hole features music on the weekends and gets filled up quickly.  Classic architectural elements adorn the interior giving this bar a true NYC speakeasy feel.

This large, cavernous subterranean bar offers a ton of specialty drinks and an impressive array of lite fare to fill your tummy.
